"RUN faster. We need to RUN much faster!" Ryan yelled. And as he ran he thought he saw a light floating near one of the strawberries. As he approached it, he touched it and stairs came out of nowhere and floated in the air. Without a second though Ryan jumped onto the closest stair, and without looking back he yelled, "The stairs. Jump up onto the stairs."

Ryan stepped up the stairs as fast as he could, hoping they led to somewhere. He could hear TJ, Aaron, and David jump onto the stairs. He raced up the stairs, until he hit a plateau. Looking around he found a bridge seemed to follow the yellow brick road in the air. "Follow me," Ryan yelled.

Floating in the air near them where large gummy worms. It was a strange sight to behold. Laughing, he kept following the walkway.

The flashing triangle was getting closer – he hoped. But he so needed to take a breath. He stopped finally. TJ, David, and Aaron joined him.

TJ said, "Let's take a breather. Any idea what the heck is going on?"

Aaron said, "I think we got sucked into an alternate reality – well, I mean, I think the TV transported us into an alternate reality."

  "Great!" TJ said sarcastically.

  David just laughed.

Ryan looked around and saw a way down. Pointing, he said, "There, let's go."

The four of them walked as quickly as they could in their designated costumes. Ryan, again in the lead, raced toward the landing. Ryan jumped down onto the yellow brick road and once he knew all four of them were there he started off toward the flashing triangle.

He really hoped there weren't any more unwanted surprises left.

But of course – this wouldn't be a weird-ass universe otherwise – a bunch of crazy-ass ghosts started following them. They did not look like friendly ghosts at all.

"Noooo. Are you freakin' kidding me?" Ryan said. The four of them picked up the pace racing toward the flashing light. Along the way Ryan took a floating strawberry out of the air and thought, What the heck. He put it in his mouth, and shockingly it tasted really good. "Those floating strawberries taste really good, guys."

Aaron and David both tried the strawberries. And as they raced away from the ghosts they plucked strawberries out of the air and into their mouths. "Yum," they all said.

  Finally, the flashing triangle.

"Ready?" Ryan asked everyone. Having enjoyed a ton of games, he knew what he needed to do, and he was so ready to do it.

"Yes, do it, Ryan. Get us the heck out of here," TJ said.

Ryan reached the flashing triangle, touched it in a combination of motions, and a second later a black hole sucked them inside.

"Yes!" Ryan yelled as they were sucked inside.

Ryan landed on the carpeted floor with a thump. Seconds later David, Aaron, and TJ joined him, with him on the bottom of the human pile. Finally able to breath and sit up, Ryan looked down at himself, and a sigh of relief came out unconsciously. They were back in the land of the living. He wore the clothes he'd put on this morning. He was human again. "YES!"

All four of them laughed. They were so happy to be back home. No more ginormous monsters of candy chasing them.

The four of them got off the floor. "Come on, let's get out of here before something else crazy happens," Ryan said. The four of them walked out the door and didn't look back.

  DESCRIPTION

  Finding Halloween

  A Finding Home Short Story

  By Gigi Kern

The gang of four – Ryan, Aaron, TJ, and David – decided to have fun for Halloween and go to a Halloween festival. Along the way they carve a pumpkin, get lost in a corn maze, and when they explore the museum, something strange happens. Go on the ride with them! You won't be disappointed.

This Finding Home Short Story is a quick adventure combined with a Halloween treat, but not a lot of romance at 3,700 words. Set in the universe of Finding Home, this takes place after Finding Love and before Finding David. But it's just a bit of fun, nothing plot-driven required. Happy reading.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Gigi Kern is currently writing the third book, Finding David in the Finding Home series, her first gay contemporary romance series. Not your average romance writer, don't be surprised if you run into her at Comic Con in San Diego or at the movies. But, don't let her nerdyness fool you, she loves to read M/M Romance and she has her favorite authors too.

Gigi first discovered her passion for reading out of desperation. During her month long hiatus for her seventh grade summer break, spending quality time with the grandparents in sunny Florida in August, the hottest time of year, she became desperate. See, awesome grandparents had no cable. Travesty though it was, Gigi discovered the retirement community's library and there it was in all its glory, Heaven by V.C. Andrews. And she's been hooked ever since.

Gigi, like her main character Aaron, has learning disabilities and ADHD. Though not as severe, she can understand her characters in a unique way. Her uniqueness flows into her distinctive writing style and voice.

Though her day job is monotonous, she has been able to work in three continents, travel and see the world.

Her menagerie of wooden animals from her world travels has major competition from her two cats, Marco-pollo and Squertie. And, cause what would a menagerie be without animals, her two 65+ pound dogs, Leo the lug and Blink the destroyer of toys.

She is currently writing her life away in Georgia. Gigi loves to hear from readers.
